Off-Grid Systems Overview

Off-grid systems are independent setups that aren’t connected to the utility power grid.

At Capital Solar, we tailor our off-grid systems to meet each customer's specific needs. Our projects range from simple livestock water pumping stations to large systems capable of powering homes or commercial buildings.

How It Works

Components:

• Solar Module: A collection of silicon cells protected by tempered glass, which convert sunlight into DC electricity through the PV effect. A PV array consists of multiple interconnected modules.

• Charge Controller: This device regulates the charge going into the battery bank and may include features like digital displays, maximum power point tracking (MPPT), and low voltage disconnects.

• Battery Bank: This stores energy produced by the solar array for later use. The size can vary, from two batteries for smaller needs to much larger setups for significant electrical loads.

• Inverter: Converts DC power from the battery bank into AC electricity for household use.

• Generator: For larger off-grid systems, a backup generator is often necessary. Given Ontario's varying sunlight throughout the year, generators help ensure adequate battery charging during the winter months.

Process

1. Solar modules convert sunlight into DC electricity.

2. The electricity travels to the charge controller.

3. The charge controller stores the energy in the battery bank and protects against overcharging.

4. The stored energy can power DC loads directly or be converted via an inverter for common household appliances.

System Longevity

An off-grid system typically lasts 20 to 25 years, but with proper maintenance, it can exceed this lifespan.

Costs vary based on the system's size and complexity. Warranty

All our systems come with a two-year warranty on labor. Equipment warranties will vary by supplier.

Payment Terms

A 33% deposit is required upon signing, with the remaining balance due upon completion of the installation.
